Kecksburg 1965: Pennsylvania’s Roswell

DECLASSIFIED FILE // CEC-6512, 2026

Pennsylvania’s Roswell

On December 9, 1965, thousands of people across six states and Canada watched a luminous object streak across the sky at high speed. Initial reports called it a meteor. But meteors don’t maneuver. The object changed direction. It slowed down. And it came down in the woods outside Kecksburg, Pennsylvania.

What They Found

The first to arrive were local firefighters and residents. What they described was not a meteor: a metallic capsule roughly the size of a small car, acorn-shaped, partially embedded in the ground. According to witnesses, it bore strange markings on its base, similar to hieroglyphics, but not Egyptian. Nothing anyone in that town could identify.

The Army Arrives

The military cordoned off the area within hours. Civilians were removed. No journalists got in. According to multiple witnesses, something was taken out of the woods in a military flatbed truck and transported to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, the same base where, according to records, the Roswell material was sent in 1947.

The Official Explanation

The army said: we found nothing. Later they said: we found a meteor but it disintegrated on impact. Later still: it could have been a Soviet satellite. None of these versions hold up against the testimony of dozens of people who saw the object up close before the army closed the area.

NASA in 2005

In response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, NASA promised to investigate and deliver a report. The report concluded: the relevant files had been lost. The records that would have explained what happened in Kecksburg on December 9, 1965 do not exist. Or never existed. Or stopped existing.
